Weber Racing Equipment shortblock assemblies are fully CNC blueprinted, balanced (Within .5 grams), and professionally assembled IN HOUSE.

We pride ourselves in precision machine work and experienced engine assembly.

Here is what you get with your 427 CI LQ4:

Brand New GM PERFORMANCE PARTS LQ4 Block

  • This is not a take out, or a blem block. These are brand new from GM. While GM really did a great job on designing these engines, we found some room for improvment on the machining end of things.
  • ***Each block is sonic tested before going to 4.070 bore.****

K1 Technologies 4.100" 4340 Forged Stroker Crankshaft

  • K1 material properties are closely monitored for optimum performance. Counterweight placements designed for improved crankshaft performance. .125" fillet radii. Nitrided for improved bearing life. Straight hole oiling system for better lubrication. Size tolerances held to +/- .0001".
  • Upgrades to Compstar, Callies, and Lunati Crankshafts are available.

Premium Wiseco Forged Pistons and Rings

  • Wiseco offers a very wide arrange of dish, flat top and dome pistons to fit your needs.
  • Our standard Wiseco pistons and rings have been used in engines making in excess of 1200 HP!!

Eagle 4340 Forged H-Beam Connecting Rods

  • Eagle "ESP" Connecting rods are forged from 4340 steel and utilize ARP 7/16" capscrew style bolts with alignment sleeves for a perfect fit. Sizing is done on the state of the art Sunnen Krossgrinding System. "ESP" connecting rods are the perfect choice for engines up to 700 HP.
  • We also offer upgraded connecting rods from K1 Technologies, Callies Compstar, Lunati, Carrillo, Oliver, Crower, Howards, GRP and Dyers!!!

Speed Pro Main and Rod Bearings. Durabond Cam Bearings

  • The materials in Speed-Pro bearings offer a variety of advantages, such as high durability, corrosion resistance, decreased rate of wear and increased fatigue strength. These advantages are all essential features for performance engines that need to withstand punishing racing conditions.
  • We remove the factory two piece bearing and install Durabond one piece cam bearings. We also make sure the cam spins free. It is very common in these GM engines to have a tight or bound up camshaft. You can rest assured your cam will spin free when purchasing a WRE shortblock!

CNC Square Decked Block Surface

  • WRE shortblocks are decked with an RA of ~12. Just to give an example on how smooth that is, glass is an RA of ~ 8 and Cometic asks for of an RA finish of no higher than 52!! We have found some of these blocks to be off as much as .016 on the head mating surface. This is brand new from the factory, these are production blocks. We expect them to have flaws. That is why we scrutonize and go through the extensive machining that we do.
  • An example of how much a undecked block can affect perfrormance a block that has a deck that is off .016 can have 12.2 compression on one cylinder and on the cylinder next to it have 11.7.

Cylinders are CNC Bored and Honed To Size with a Torque Plate

  • We utilize the top machinery in engine machining to ensure a proper bore size that is centered on your crankshaft. This allows for very accurate bore sizing down to the .001!.
  • Our Sunnen CK-10 cylinder hone is at the top of its class. We use deck plate specially made for the LS series of engines to ensure 0 distortion in your engine.

Main Journals are Align Honed

  • AS said before, these blocks are a great foundation that do need work. We have found that an align hone is not an option on ANY GM Performance Parts block. IT IS ABSOLUTLY ESSENTIAL!!!  This ensures bind free rotation of the crankshaft. This means better oil pressure, longer bearing life and even free horsepower!!
  • Each Main Cap is individually checked and surfaced as needed to properly seat on the block. After that is complete the line hone is ran through the block with the mains bolted and torqued down to ensure a round Main Journal that is within specification.

Crankcase is CNC Stroker Clearanced

  • Due to the size of most aftermarket rod bolts and fitment issues,we clearance each piston skirt where we have ever had a clearance issue. This eliminates someone in the engine after it is completly cleaned in the assembly room having to file or grind away to make a rod fit.

  • Each block has a good amount of casting flash in it. We go through and clean out all of that flashing and also eliminate the sharp parts of the block.

Piston Rings are File Fit Per YOUR Needs

 

  • On of the biggest advantages to have a custom built motor is knowing that it is set up with your application in mind. Who wants to buy an off the shelf motor that may be gapped for a turbo car on your Naturally Aspirated daily driver? This will cause additional blow-by and therfore cost you power. There is also the other possibility of having a Naturally Aspirated ring gap on your turbo motor!! This creates a problem much worse than blow-by will ruin alot of good parts. We take every part of what YOU want into consideration when building a motor. Gapping the rings for the application is an important detail not overlooked by WRE.

Precision Balanced Rotating Assembly

  • All of the rotating parts of your shortblock are weiged and matched to give you a rattle and shake free engine. An improperly balanced engine can cause premature failures and annoying vibrations. Not to mention having everything properly balanced makes for a happy engine that makes more power!!

Professional Engine Assembly in Dedicated Clean Room

  • We employ only talented, educated, and experienced engine builders that have only one job at Weber Racing Equipment. That is to build engines. You can be rest assured that your engine is properly assembled by a true professional. Our engine builders not only make this there living, it is there life.
